Immigration & Custom Clearance

General information:

Marina Resort Waterland is the first and only official freshwater marina in Suriname with floating jetties, with 12-15 berths for sailing yachts of up to 100 ft. in length and a draught of up to 4.50 meters. Some of the facilities we offer: shore electricity, running water, toilets & showers, laundry service, bar and restaurant, car hire & taxis, river beach facilities, bilingual staff. Full 24-hour security 365 days a year. The marina is part of a small private resort with 7 luxuriously equipped detached bungalows, a pavilion-restaurant and sandy beaches, in a beautiful and rustic ambiance. There is a large supermarket about 2.5 km from the resort. Marina Resort Waterland is a safe place to leave the boat during the hurricane season (within terms of your World Coverage insurance). We advise you to book in advance so that you can be assured of a berth.

Maritime Authority Suriname (MAS) requirements:

The MAS requires that all necessary documents be submitted at least 48 hours before your entry into Suriname. You can mail these documents to us, so that we will carry out the customs clearance and immigration smoothly and quickly for you.

PLEASE NOTE, vessels over 50 GRT must report to the MAS at least 48 hours prior to arrival via a shipping agent approved by the MAS. If no notification has been made, the vessel shall not be allowed to enter.

Arrival:

You enter Suriname through the Suriname River, preferably during the day when the tide comes in, as different colors of light can confuse you at night. You can anchor at the inlet of the Suriname river, and preferably wait for the tide to come in. Marina Resort Waterland is about 30 NM from the mouth.

The shipping lane is clearly indicated by buoys. About 8 miles in you will pass the Capital city of Paramaribo.

  • Make radio contact with the MAS (Maritime Authority Suriname) on channel 12 or 16 to let them know of your arrival. If there is no response you can just continue, sail under the bridge over the river (height 41 meters) and after about 13 NM you will pass Domburg. Marina Resort Waterland is 5 NM further, on your right.
  • Government regulations make it impossible to anchor in front of or near the city. You are welcome to stay at Marina Resort Waterland.

After arrival you have 2 days to clear customs / complete customs formalities, we will be happy to help you with that.

Intermediary rates:

30 Euro for customs clearance, immigration of sailing/motor yachts with a crew of up to 5 people, 6 Euro will be added per additional person.
